Описание растения:

Представители рода Cassiope-Кассиопея произрастают в регионах Северного полушария с арктическим и альпийским климатом, в том числе в Гималаях. Растут на влажных, плодородных, кислых почвах. Светолюбивы. Как и все вересковые имеют на корнях микоризу (связь растения с грибами). Низкорослые вечнозелёные стелющиеся кустарнички высотой 10—25 см. Стебли тонкие, ползучие, ветвистые. Листья у кассеопеи мелкие чешуевидные, ланцетные, очень плотно обхватывают стебель. Цветки верхушечные или на боковых пазушных цветоножках, одиночные, белого или розового цвета, колокольчатой формы. Период цветения - май—июнь. В культуре чаще всего встречаются следующие виды:
Кассиопея гребенчатая - Cassiope pectinata.  Кустарник достигающий 10-20 см в высоту. Молодые стебли одиночные, с возрастом сильно разветвленные. Ветви густо покрытые в 4 ряда прилегающими листьями. Листья ланцетно-продолговатые, зеленые, кожистые, имеют форму лодочки, очень мелкие. Цветок достаточно крупный, белый или розовый, в форме колокольчика до 2,5 см длиной. Цветет в июле-августе. 
Кассиопея плауновидная - Cassiope lycopodioides.
Очень низкорослый кустарник достигающий высоты всего 5-8 см, образуюет плотный ковер диаметром 30-50 см. Корни поверхностные, с микоризой. Листья сидячие, чешуевидные, очень мелкие. Шнуровидные стебли усыпаны крошечными 0,7 см белыми с красными чашечками цветками которые похожи на клокольчики. Одиночные, пазушные, поникающие, на длинных цветоножках. Цветет данное кустарниковое растение в мае-июне, редко в самом начале августе.


Уход за растением:

Месторасположение для кассиопеи: предпочитают хорошо освещенные места, могут выносить полутень. 
Почва для кассиопеи: требует богатой органикой влажной и кислой почвы. Дренаж обязателен. 
Размножение кассеопии: черенками в холодном парнике, реже семенами, которые высевают весной по поверхности влажного торфа. Обсудить данное растение можно на цветущем форуме Беларуси.
